While I could relate to this book on some levels... there was something about it that didn't quite gel with me. I only wish he took his own advice and listened to his own last words written in this book. I guess knowing that the author committed suicide himself made this book feel a little more morose. But the surprise was the journey of him silently struggling with his depression and anxiety. I really cannot describe how much this books means to me. A very enjoyable, thought-provoking read. It also gives the insight of how it is to go through treatement when you turn to help from a hospital when you want to kill yourself. It's pretty sad that going to the bathroom seems to be the highlight of his day (he even manages to stretch each trip out to about five minutes), but it's also the truth. He ends up calling a suicide hotline instead and they direct him to the nearest emergency room where he checks in for a minimum five day stay in the adult psychiatric ward (adult because the teen ward is closed for renovations). Most books about depression can be a trigger and put you in a depressing mood (like Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher which I couldn't even finish because it made me feel so crappy) but this also seems to have a hopeful tone to it. I had read it many times between that and the last time I read it, sometime last year, when I felt almost exactly like the main character in this book did. Narrator Robert Fass matches Craig's desolate moods and factual nature very well. Then you can start reading Kindle books on your smartphone, tablet, or computer - no Kindle device required. The class work, extracurricular activities, friends, girls, email, and pot smoking become more than he can bear. The recipient was very pleased with it and it arrived promptly but having not read it myself can not comment on the content. I'm so frustrated! It’s a tough topic to tackle, but the author managed to blend some light humour in with the dark issues dealt within this book. I was very interested in this one though as the author lost his life to the disease, and I can see through his character Craig the author had so much going on in his mind, but what a clever guy he must have been. It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini is very well written and realistic as it is based on the author’s own stay on a psych ward. That's when things start to get crazy. Redemption links and eBooks cannot be resold. He wrote it because this is actually what goes on. He for sure would've been one of the greatest authors. A call to a suicide hotline gets him into a psychiatric hospital, where he is finally able to face his demons. May 1st 2007 my immediate reaction after reading this: its kind of a, I refuse to believe that writing a book from the perspective of a fifteen year old boy is any excuse for the level of transphobia, sexism, homophobia, and classism that defines this book.
